Today was move in day at the Civic Center where we were assigned our dressing rooms and given performance information. After blocking the dances for hours, we were released to lunch. But not just any lunch...food from Wintzell's Oyster House. The oyster house is the longest sponsor of America's Junior Miss and looks forward to seeing us each year. Not only do they provide lunch, they also are the site of the much anticipated annual Oyster eating contest. Last year New Mexico beat her sister's record to make it 43 oysters in 15 minutes. That alone sounds ubelievable. This year, Kentucky has been bragging about how much she loves oysters and that she was definitely going to win the contest. Well, 74 oysters later, she not only won the contest, but beat the record as well. 74 oyster in 15 minutes! Standing behind her the entire time, I can honestly say raw oysters on the half shell are not the most appetizing thing in the world. I will have you know though, she kept every one of those oysters down. Even after the fitness routine 30 minutes later, Kentucky was going strong. I have no idea how she did it.
After 4 more hours of rehearsal, we drove to Lulu's Landing for dinner. Lulu's is a fun restaurant set up like bungalos on a beach. Again, the Junior Miss appearance was advertised weeks in advance and many locals came up to meet us. The country music channel CMT even came to talk with us and we will be seen on a show airing this July and August. I really am a celebrity now!
Tommorow should be an amazing day-we get out of rehearsal around 5:30 and get the rest of the night off to relax! This will be especially nice with my interview the next morning. At least my interview is the day before the prelims start so the most stressful part for me will be over. Everything is finally sinking in now. The show is only 3 short days away! Again, thank you to everyone checking up on me-I know I haven't gotten into too much detail, but that will give us even more to talk about when I get back! Until then, keep sending messages!
Love,
Hilary
