wow! mobile gets more and more interesting every day.
sunday started out with a beautiful church service at the Spring Hill Baptist church, which provides us with our rehearsal space in their rec center! it was a great, traditional service, with one very important guest. the service featured the song "jesus loves me," performed by taylor davis, a young boy who has been battling cancer the past two years. on his first sunday back in church in those two years, he was joined by his grandfather's quartet, the "messengers." so touching and very sweet. after church, we as an entire family, went down to Holiday Isle, a condominium where the jr misses would be joining us after ft gaines. there, we hung out with the sherrils, erin and kristen. our time was SO FUN, filled with hair braiding, pizza and dragonfly "attacks."
we then went to fort gaines, an old civil war fort from the battle of Mobile Bay. we were graciously greeted by the dauphin island beach board members and president, and got a really cool demonstration from their current blacksmith who formed civil war-era pieces. then we got to see (and hear!) a cannon being shot with only 1/2 the normal amount of gunpowder - it was still incredibly loud! after our "tour," michelle (rodgers, ajm 2009) planted a tree at the entrance along with past jr misses' trees. then it was time to hit the beach! we swam, played on the beach, hunted for hermit crabs and sea shells and truly enjoyed ourselves. the beaches were GORGEOUS and we had some great food! before we knew it, it was time to return home. back at the house, we watched barbie and the 12 dancing princesses - i'm such a sucker for cute movies and dancing!
today was another new but chill day. we finally moved to the civic center - yay! we blocked, danced and sweated! however, we went to wintzels, the oyster house for lunch - so fun! julie from kentucky won with 74 oysters...last years winner had eaten 44! wow! for dinner, we went to lulus, a gorgeous beachy resteraunt owned/created by lucy buffet, jimmy buffets sister! great car rides there with miss paige, amazing food and great music/atmosphere! such a fun, fun night.
i miss everyone so, so much! thank you to ALL of you who are supporting me with your words, cards or even simply reading my posts :) i cant wait to see my family and the state team down here in mobile - only a few short days!!!! miss and love you all....hope to talk to you soon!
