Let me start off this entry by stating the obvious: Alabama, is HOT! The humidity, though I hear it's great for the skin, is not so great for a hairstyle. Knowing full-well what I was in for, I threw my hair up into a pony-tail for our tour through the Bellingrath gardens this morning. My shoe choice, however, was not so sensible. As I awkwardly clomped through Bellingrath in heels (trust me, I am usually a flip-flop girl), I truly got to appreciate the beauty the humidity in Mobile creates. The native plants and flowers thrive in the weather, unlike my hair! I have never seen such a beautiful garden so full of brightly colored flowers and exotic (well exotic tome at least!) plants. After a day filled with wardrobe checks and group bonding, such as "never have I ever," and the blue team cheers, we put on our cowboy boots and headed to tour the U.S.S. Alabama, enjoy a BBQ in the hanger, and some line dancing as well. As you can imagine, I have never donned a pair of cowboy boots, or attempted to line dance. My host mom, Mama D, and I were among the first on the dance floor, and she kicked it off with a mean "Electric Slide." We wrapped the whole day up with Papa D and I joining in on the giant circle during "Cotton Eyed Joe." The blisters on my feet are a small price to pay for the fun I had boogeying down with my host family tonight.
