Daphne Bank Robber Captured by Police
DAPHNE, Ala. (WPMI) A bank robbery suspect is behind bars after police say he held up the First Community Bank in Tuesday night.
The man in the video is seen smiling as he interacts with bank tellers. Police say 36 year old Christopher Gibson was the man seen in the bank's surveillance video.
Gibson was arrested Wednesday morning at a hotel in Mobile.
"Yesterday after the news stories aired we started getting tips on his identity all of them identifying Mr. Gibson those continued this morning until finally one of the tips included a possible location," said Daphne Police Sgt. Brian Gulesby.
"He attacked a detective that was down there with him which led to a physical altercation the detective suffered some minor injuries," said Gulesby. That was moments after Daphne Police rushed Gibson to Thomas Hospital in Fairhope.
Gibson had started complaining he had kidney stones. "All along it could have been a plan yes but there's also the possibility that he was just stall going to jail," said Gulesby.
Another interesting tid bit about Gibson: he graduated from the Fire Academy and once worked for the Prichard Fire Department.
Recently he applied for job with Mobile's Fire Department, he never got in when "discrepancies in his application" caught up with him.
Gibson's had an arrest record dating back to 2008, he had been arrested several times for writing bad checks.
