Arguments in Lam Luong Case Wednesday
MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WPMI) The Supreme Court of Alabama will hear arguments Wednesday in the case of a man convicted on several counts of murder after throwing his four children off the Dauphin Island Bridge.
Earlier this year, The Court of Criminal Appeals threw out the 2009 conviction and death sentence of Lam Luong.
The court cited the publicity and media attention surrounding the case for the decision.
Mobile County District Attorney Ashley Rich said her office is "on hold" until the Supreme Court hears the the case.
The case of Luong, a Vietnamese immigrant and part-time shrimp boat worker, took odd twists that made headlines right up to the start of his trial. Days before jury selection, Luong said he wanted to plead guilty but he ended up withdrawing that decision. The trial judge denied requests by Luong's defense lawyers to move the trial outside of Mobile County.
