Syracuse, NY (Sports Network) - Syracuse will reportedly stay in house for its next head coach after Doug Marrone left to take the vacancy with the NFL's Buffalo Bills.

According to multiple reports, including the Syracuse Post-Standard, defensive coordinator Scott Shafer will be promoted to take the position.

The Post-Standard said Syracuse recruit Darius Kelly was informed by assistant coach Donnie Henderson that Shafer would be the next head coach for the Orange.

Marrone was 25-25 and led Syracuse to a pair of Pinstripe Bowl wins in four years at his alma mater, turning around a program that had just 10 wins the previous four seasons.

Shafer, meanwhile, has been the Syracuse defensive coordinator since 2009 and has also been a collegiate assistant at Michigan (2008), Stanford (2007), Western Michigan (2005-06), Illinois (2004), Northern Illinois (1996-2003) and Rhode Island (1993-95).
