DECATUR, Ala. (AP) Authorities say frigid weather in north Alabama is causing several wrecks on icy roads and bridges.

Police in Decatur urged drivers to stay off the roads Saturday because of "extremely dangerous" conditions with ice forming on bridges and overpasses.

Al.com reports police were blaming the winter weather for at least six wrecks in the Decatur area.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory Saturday morning for several counties in Alabama and Tennessee. An icy mix of precipitation was predicted to turn to rain as temperatures warmed up later in the day. No snow accumulation was predicted.

The advisory affected the Alabama counties of Madison, Limestone, Morgan, Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Marshall, Jackson, DeKalb and Cullman.
