BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The University of Alabama has announced plans to launch a graduate certificate program in social media.
Molly Wasko, chair of the department of management, information systems and quantitative methods, said the program is focused on serving working professionals who are interested in using social media for business purposes.
Officials say the courses will teach strategic marketing value of social media, and how to use Web analytic reports and digital trace data for professional purposes.
Ellen Markstein, manager of a Birmingham-based firm offering clients social networking services, says employees with social-media skill sets are in demand.
The program is open to anyone with a bachelor's degree and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
