(CENTREVILLE, Ala.) A judge has again delayed the trial of a man charged with killing his wife at their Bibb County home in 1999.

Jody Byrd was scheduled to go on trial this week in the gunshot killing of his 29 year old wife, Desta Dodson-Byrd.

But The Tuscaloosa News reports a judge delayed the case because a new prosecutor has taken over.

The trial will now likely be held next year. The case already has been delayed twice this year.

Byrd told police he found his wife's body outside their house when he returned home from work on Feb. 25, 1999. He wasn't charged with murder in the killing until May 2011.

The indictment charges that Byrd killed his wife to collect insurance money, but the defense says he's innocent.
