(MONTGOMERY Ala.) - Looking back on his first year in office, Gov. Robert Bentley says the killer tornadoes in April were the low point and the high point.

Bentley says that April 27 was his 100th day in office and that he planned to spend it reflecting on his performance.

He tells The Associated Press he never had time.

Instead, he spent it taking the lead on the state's recovery from 62 tornadoes that killed about 250 people.

Bentley visited the 38 affected counties in the days after the storms.

Both Republican and Democratic leaders praised his response.

House Democratic Leader Craig Ford says Bentley did what a governor is supposed to do - get out and be seen by people.

Bentley says the high point of the year was seeing so many people volunteer to help tornado victims.
