(TALLAHASSEE, Fla.) - The state Board of Education is scheduled to make a decision on how high to set passing scores for Florida's standardized test.

The board will hold a conference call Monday to vote on new cut scores for the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test.

Education Commissioner Gerard Robinson has recommended setting passing scores for the FCAT reading in the 9th and 10th grade that are slightly higher than what a panel of education leaders recommended.

The goal of raising the scores is to help ensure students are prepared for higher and a career and don't need remedial education in college.

Some are concerned the scores are being set too high and that more children will fail.

Sure hope the test scores are set high enough to be a news reporter! "The goal of raising the scores is to help ensure students are prepared for higher and a career and don't need remedial education in college." Higher what? Career what? Yea, all some people are concerned about is their kids passing! Doesn't matter that their kid turns out dumber than hell. It's like the recent comments from some students at Theodore Alabama high school I read the other day. Those kids can't even make a complete sentence, spell, or know the slightest thing about punctuation. Of course after reading their parents' comments, it's completely understandable. Set the test scores high. It's sickening to see these kids graduating just for attending school and learning nothing! Then you have the schools wanting more money every time you turn around which hasn't proven to help the students at all! All this is reeking havoc on the employers too. They're having to hire these uneducated kids without a clue about their REAL education or lack of. This is all a part of the "dumbing" down of America. That piece of paper (high school diploma) means nothing without an education to back it up!
