OZARK, Ala. (AP) - Officials say schools that took days off during the hostage crisis in Midland City in January and early February will not be required to make up those days.
The Dothan Eagle reports that Ozark City Schools Superintendent Mike Lenhart made the announcement recently.
The district dismissed classes for three days - Jan. 30 through Feb. 1 - in response to the fatal shooting on Jan. 29 of Dale County Schools bus driver Charles "Chuck" Poland and the abduction of 6-year-old Ethan Gilman, who was 5 at the time.
Lenhart said the district used those days off to review and exercise existing policies aimed at better protecting students both in school and on buses.
