JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi House committee has advanced a bill that would seal what are now public records for state-issued permits to carry concealed weapons.

House Bill 485 passed the Judiciary A Committee on Monday. It moves to the full House for more debate.

The bill's sponsor is Republican Mark Baker of Brandon, who chairs the Judiciary A Committee. He says he filed it at the request of constituents who were upset that a newspaper in New York published the names and addresses of people who have concealed weapons permits there.

The National Rifle Association supports the bill.

Mississippi Press Association president Jim Prince has said he objects to exempting records from public view.
