GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - Beginning in January, students and employees at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College won't be able to smoke or use tobacco products on any campus.
College officials hope the change will encourage those who study and work on campus to adopt better health habits.
Mary S. Graham, MGCCC president, says the college also is embarking on a litter-free campaign for all campuses in 2013.
The fine for those caught littering will be $50.
These two programs are part of MGCCC's Strategic Plan 2020, which took a year to develop and went into effect in the fall. Both initiatives will be in effect at the Perkinston, Gulfport and Gautier campuses, as well as campus centers throughout the Coast.
