(GADSDEN, Ala.) Etowah County authorities say a man is in custody after police seized more than three pounds of the purest type of methamphetamine.

Narcotics investigators say 20-year-old Hector Aragon Vasquez of Albertville is charged with trafficking.

Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin says authorities have determined that Vasquez is living in the country illegally.

The Gadsden Times reported Tuesday that Vasquez was arrested near Boaz after an investigation that lasted more than three weeks.

A police dog detected about a pound of meth hidden in a car, and an investigation led to the seizure of more meth in a rural area of Marshall County.

Police say the drug has a wholesale value of about $200,000. They describe the seizure as one of the largest in the region.
