(PENSACOLA, Fla.) - An ordinance designed to keep Pensacola Beach's famous white sands white is holding up plans for a luxury RV park.
The developer of the of the 70-lot park told the Pensacola News Journal that he worked for more than two years obtaining permits to build the $2.4 million park on the
environmentally sensitive barrier island. But construction crews discovered discolored sand when they broke ground in November.
The county says it appears the sand was trucked in during hurricane repairs in decades past.
Now, it's the developers' responsibility to remove all of the discolored sand and replace it with the pristine white sand native to Pensacola Beach.
Developer Jim Reeves says the unexpected work will be expensive and time consuming.
