BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - Beauvoir, the last home of Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederacy, is expected to open to visitors on Wednesday.
For nearly eight years, the first building guests at Beauvoir have seen coming through the gates is a FEMA trailer, a reminder of Hurricane Katrina.
Now, Beauvoir executive director Bertram Hayes-Davis tells WLOX-TV in Biloxi that visitors will be greeted inside the new Jefferson Davis Presidential Library.
Workers have spent the past two days hauling boxes and unloading items into the new gift shop.
Workers also hope to have the admissions office and the gift shop ready for guests. Hayes-Davis hopes to open the rest of the building and have an official grand opening sometime this summer.
