NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Nasty weather has settled in on much of Louisiana and Mississippi, with tornado watches in south Louisiana and south Mississippi, and flash flood watches in southeast Louisiana and much of north Mississippi.

The National Weather Service says bad weather is likely to stretch into Fat Tuesday in southeast Louisiana. Jefferson Parish has canceled a Monday night parade.

In Jackson, Chad Entremont says storms south of I-20 were dumping a lot of rain, with nearly 3 inches by early afternoon near Vicksburg and 1 to 2 inches in Jackson. He says more rain is expected Monday and Tuesday.

Northwest Louisiana was luckier. Meteorologist Matt Hemingway says that Sunday's rains ranged from 1 ½ to 2 inches, and were good for farmers, because it had been a dry February so far.
