(PASCAGOULA, Miss.) - Ingalls Shipbuilding has been awarded a $51.3 million contract for work on the Navy's USS San Antonio-class ships.
The Mississippi Press reports that the contract is for engineering and support services on the amphibious transport docks.
An original contract for ship services was awarded to the company in 2005 and a second contract came in 2010.
The latest award is the second of four annual options associated with the 2010
contract.
The San Antonio-class ships are built to deploy the combat and support elements of Marine Expeditionary Units and Brigades.
The ships are 684 feet long and can carry up to 800 troops.
Ingalls has built and delivered the first five ships in the class and has five others under construction at the Pascagoula and Avondale, La., shipyards.
