PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - Ingalls Shipbuilding has been awarded a $54 million contract for engineering and support services on the U.S. Navy's USS San Antonio class of amphibious ships.

The San Antonio LPD 17 class of ships can carry up to 800 troops and can transport landing craft, helicopters and "vertical-takeoff" aircraft such as the Osprey.

The contract calls for Ingalls to provide "life cycle" engineering services that include supply chain management, maintenance and planning for fleet modernization.

Huntington Ingalls Industries said the latest contract is the third of four annual options associated with a contract awarded in February of 2010.
