BILOXI, Miss. (AP) The Harrison County Board of Supervisors will hold a workshop in the next two weeks to discuss rules and fees for the taxi industry.

The Sun Herald reports taxi drivers appeared before the board Monday to protest the fees they are paying under the taxi commission established by the Legislature in 2010.

Leisa Leisy, president of the Gulf Coast Taxi Commission, said fees have increased to nearly $1,000 per year, depending on how many vehicles a company has.

In 2010, the Legislature created the Harrison County Motor Vehicle for Hire Commission to regulate the taxi business. Before that, the cities in the county oversaw the taxi companies and covered much of the cost.
