GULFPORT, Miss. (WPMI) A former Gulfport police chief killed in the line of duty is being honored a day after the 100th anniversary of his death.

A permanent display at the Gulfport Police Department honors Charles Dickey, who was killed while searching for a burglar. He had been named police chief in December 1910.

The display includes a framed picture of Dickey, along with an account of details that led to his death. The SunHerald reports that it was slated to go up Tuesday outside the Gulfport department's second floor meeting room, which is named for Dickey.
