GAUTIER, Miss. (AP) The Gautier City Council has approved a resolution to request the Pascagoula School District change its name to the Pascagoula-Gautier School District.
For 100 years, the Pascagoula School District has comprised both Pascagoula and Gautier schools. Now that Gautier has grown since it became a city in 1986, council members want Gautier to be recognized as part of the district.
Mayor Tommy Fortenberry told The Sun Herald on Tuesday he's spoken with Pascagoula School Board members and so far has had a positive response.
A Pascagoula School District representative said the board will consider the request after officially receiving a letter from the city.
