FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) A Florida Senate health committee will be meeting for the first time since Gov. Rick Scott announced he would expand Medicaid coverage to roughly 900,000 residents under the Affordable Care Act.

State lawmakers must still sign off on the decision. Committee Chair Joe Negron says Scott's decision does not guarantee swift passage through Florida's House and Senate.

Negron says the committee has not reached a decision. He hopes it will make one in the first few weeks of the annual legislative session that begins March 5.
