TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is issuing an email fraud warning.

The agency on Thursday said the public should beware of fraudsters using the department's name and email address, DoNotReply(at)flhsmv.gov, to send fake messages that look like receipts from online transactions.

They include bogus confirmation and tracking numbers.

Officials advise citizens who receive who have not made recent transactions to delete messages. They may have the department's email address or a second address that varies and may look like a personal email address. If recipients already have opened a message they should not click any of the links within it.

The links lead to websites that may contain malware. The emails are a type of spam known as "phishing."
