(MOBILE COUNTY, Ala.) - Fire crews have been busy overnight fighting several house fires.
In Mobile a 2 story home on Elmira Street went up in flames around 1:52 a.m.
Firefighters encountered heavy fire in the wood frame structure when they arrived.
A man visiting his sister says he saw the flames reaching 30 to 40 feet high from the street.
“I just saw these big flashing flames so I went to the street and looked and it was like wow, I just started to pray,” says Clifford Coleman.
Firefighters say a female, her step-son and his girlfriend escaped without apparent injury."It was nothing but God that saved our lives tonight. I just thank God that my baby was not in that house,” says Alexis Harrison who was inside when the fire broke out.
Alexis Harrison said her bedroom door was engulfed in flames.
She and her boyfriend had to jump from a window to escape.
Firefighters say the cause of the fire is still under investigation but believe the blaze started on the first floor of the structure and spread throughout causing total damage to the structure.Damage is estimated at approximately $46 thousand.
Firefighters were also called out to a blaze at
1055 Alba Street at 3:13 a.m.
Firefighters discovered heavy smoke coming from the roof at rear of the single-story, wood frame with brick veneer structure.
An elderly woman escaped unharmed.
Firefighters discovered fire in a middle bedroom, a heater closet and into the attic.
Firefighters believe it originated in the heater closet and was caused by electrical arching.
It's been ruled accidental.
Damage is estimated at approximately $20 thousand. No injuries were reported.
The American Red Cross has been called to assist all victims involved.Also overnight, fire crews in Grand Bay were called out to the scene of a residential fire on Long View Drive around 4:45 Tuesday morning.
That home was destroyed and pets were lost.
