TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) A member of the Florida Commission on Ethics believes the Senate's effort to tighten ethics may have the opposite affect if it becomes law.

The Senate passed an ethics bill on the first day of the legislative session, but Commissioner Matt Carlucci wrote Thursday that some provisions in the bill that could loosen ethics.

Carlucci said that includes a narrow definition in a voting conflicts provision that could allow votes that would now be prohibited. And a provision that allows officials to correct mistakes in financial disclosure forms removes any incentive to file them correctly the first time.

And he said a provision that protects officials from a conflict if their assets are in a blind trust should contain language requiring disclosure of what assets went into the blind trust.
