PASCAGOULA, Miss.) - The Department of Defense's proposed cost-cutting measures could have major implications for shipbuilding in South Mississippi.

As a result of the cuts, some new vessels could be shelved, scrapped or delayed over the next decade.

A few broad details covered in the first five years of a 10-year cost reduction plan were released Thursday, but more information is expected on Feb. 13.

The Sun Herald reports the proposal for a one year delay in the start of construction on a LHA large-deck amphibious vessel, which is to be built by Huntington Ingalls in
Pascagoula.

The proposal also calls for proceeding with the Navy's plans to buy more Arleigh Burke class guided-missile destroyers from Huntington Ingalls.

Officials declined to comment on how the plans could affect the shipyard's future.

rufio - 6:25 PM 0 Votes Report User I have re-reaed this story several times and I have yet to see any reference to drugs here at all... Do tell! I have yet to read anything about the Keystone pipeline in this story also rufio. The Keystone pipeline has nothing whatsoever to do with BP. The 20K jobs in the US that would have been created would have made the food stamp President Obama less likely to get the tree hugger votes.

Keystone never promised one American Job, Keystone is all foreign workers building a foreign pipeline for BP. The only money it makes for the US is payoffs to the GOP.

Perhaps if they could build then right the first time they would still have work.

President Obama has now gutted the US Defense by 50% and basically eliminated NASA. All these are jobs that will no longer exist. Not only Government jobs but more civilians jobs that Government jobs. He will not allow the Keystone XL pipeline to go forward and that eliminates over 20K new jobs at the very least. He opens the Mexican border to Mexican truck drivers and the mileage rates have fallen for US Truck drivers since September when the Mexicans were allowed to drive inside the US. Every American, Man, Woman, and Child now owes $48,000 each to the US Government for US debt and that money was borrowed from China. His Jobs Council appointee Jeffrey Immelt from GE has exported jobs and technology to China. His main fund raiser George Soros has heavily invested in clean energy projects that benefit from all the failed "Green Energy" projects that Obama has supported. President Obama has backed supported over 800 million in guranteed loans of taxpayers money to 3 solar companies that have filed for bankruptcy in the last year, all 3 claiming that they couldn't compete against China's lower cost of imports for solar energy equipment.
