(SUMMERDALE, Ala.) - A dangerous ex-con is on the run after he escaped and tried to run over two Summerdale Police officers Saturday.

Police say it happened at the intersection of County Roads 28 and 55 around 9:40 Saturday night.

They are looking for 35-year-old Victor Stanton of Mobile, wanted for attempted assault of an officer.

He's also been arrested more than 50 times for crimes ranging from armed robbery to kidnapping.

At one point, officers opened fire attempting to disable the vehicle.

In a statement police Chief Eddie Ingram said:

"I think the officers demonstrated a great amount of restraint during this incident. They didn't shoot the driver for fear of hitting the two passengers in the vehicle. The basically put the passengers' safety above their own."

Both women were arrested that Saturday night, but police are still searching for Stanton.

If you know where he is, call police.
