WIGGINS, Miss. (AP) - Authorities have seized 117 mixed-breed dogs from a home in Stone County and charged the owner with misdemeanor animal neglect and animal cruelty.

Authorities tell The Sun Herald that the dogs were living without food and water at the home in the Magnolia community.

Chief Deputy Phyllis Olds says authorities found some dogs dead, some lying in the yard and others in black trash bags outside. Still others, including some puppies, were found dead inside the home.

Olds says the owner of the home, Shirley Guy, does not live there.

Olds says for each of the 177 animals seized, Guy is facing one misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty, animal neglect and failure to vaccinate for rabies.

Authorities went to the home Tuesday after complaints from neighbors.
