(BIRMINGHAM, Ala.) Forecasters say Alabama is in store for rough weather through Monday.

The National Weather Service says a cold front moving through the state will create storms and a risk of severe weather through Monday afternoon.

Lightning knocked out power to about 4,400 utility customers in the Tennessee Valley city of Athens early Sunday, and forecasters say the threat of strong storms will spread to the southeast through the day.

The weather service says heavy downpours are possible, and there's a slight risk of severe storms in north and central Alabama.

Storms could become stronger, and forecasters say there's a possibility of isolated tornadoes in south Alabama before the system moves out of the state.

Forecasters say more storms are possible mid-week.
