MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) The governor is preparing to release a report by a commission he created to study the availability and rising cost of homeowners insurance.

Gov. Robert Bentley directed the Affordable Homeowners Insurance Commission to address insurance issues caused by hurricanes along the coast and the massive tornado outbreak that hit the state in April 2011. A spokesman for the governor says he will release the report at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The commission's report does not having the backing of one member. A representative from a homeowners group in coastal counties said the commission's work is not done because it did not provide solutions.

They truly are commissioners for the insurance companies and seem to be working for a high paying job after leaving the state job with all the benefits to publicly work for the insurance industry. If you have a choice it's better to have insurance but if you're like myself and can no longer afford it take extra precaution maybe with one of these security companies that provide fire and emergency services calls when detected but I haven't found a solution for the wind problem yet except for extra hold downs on the roof. These may help mitigate some problems but not solve them entirely.I think the best solution would be a generic state policy supplied by the state at an affordable price and funded partly by maybe a state lottery or something of the kind.Might as well dream big.

Yea, all that money they charge you for premiums and yet when disaster strikes home you have to get an attorney to force them to honor the contract. Another increase or two for me and I'm going to be forced to drop it altogether. They are setting themselves up to go out of business or be totally supported by and for the rich only!

The former Alabama Insurance Commissioner Walter Bell from Mobile conveniently took a job with one of the largest insurance companies in the world after he resigned as Commissioner in August 2008. Did he have the best interests of homeowners and the citizens of Alabama while he was serving and getting paid by taxpayers for 5 years? I don't think so. He also approved a 12-18% increased for State Farm before he resigned. Follow the money folks, every politician no matter what level of office they occupy is in it for themselves and how they can get money, the people are not important. In 2000 my State Farm homeowners cost me $1600.00 a year and now it's $3500.00 without a single claim filed. Insurance is now a corrupt industry and fixed business where the owners, stockholders and employees never loose a dime and are guaranteed to turn a profit. I hate insurance companies and lawyers.

What a joke Insurance company's are. I purchased a house in 2004 for $120K and the cost was $862.00 a year. Today 2013 I have to have two (2) different policies (1) one for elec. fire. and (1) one for wind and hail. and I now pay $3200.00 a year for both. This has gotten out of hand, and don't forget you have a 10% deduct if you have to make a claim.
