ALBERTVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A state trooper and former councilman for a northern Alabama city is recovering from being hit by a car while he was taking a morning run.

Al.com reports Chuck Ellis was out for a run about 7:30 Wednesday in Albertville when he was hit by a car.

Officials say the man who hit Ellis told them his windshield was foggy, and he did not see the state trooper jogging.

Authorities do not expect to file charges against the unidentified man.

Ellis was hospitalized with a severely broken leg, and underwent surgery Wednesday night.

Ellis also suffered a broken nose, and injured shoulder and several cuts and bruises.

Albertville is about 47 miles southeast of Huntsville in Marshall County.
