(MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The powerful Alabama Education Association laid out its legislative agenda in advance of Tuesday's start to the regular session of the state Legislature.

The AEA wants to streamline the process for state takeover of low-performing schools in order to improve them. AEA Executive Secretary Henry Mabry says the group also opposes any attempt to bring charter schools to the state.

Charter schools are funded with taxpayer dollars, but operate outside some of the rules that affect public schools.

Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard's spokesman, Todd Stacy, said Monday the speaker wants lawmakers to consider legislation allowing some charter schools.

The 2012 session kicks off on Tuesday with the House and Senate meeting at noon and Gov. Robert Bentley addressing a joint session in the evening.

Why thank you Born, that means a lot coming from such a legendary blogger as yourself. I always thought there some highly unintelligent posters here, but Al.com makes this look like MIT. I guess the gene is much larger on AL.com, which explains a lot!!!

@H2L, I have been backing you up over at AL.com for awhile Dubya Gee! It's not too hard to spot a good poster on another website with brains, common sense and logic! Sadly though the same "Special Needs" Kool-Aid drinkers like 'Oh Really' are on every website, even AL.com

Hey Born and MM...why don't you join me over on the AL.com site. Oh, S**t spouts the same BS over there. It's always along the same line. The "Drop" will turn a profit, there's no crime DT, the police are doing a great job and can do no wrong and we're lucky to have such insightful leaders like Scam and Fred in charge! I think he must be the "Doom Bros." gopher!

mayman - totally off the subject at hand - but the MoonPie event will show a profit for the city. Obviously some things should have been brought to the council that were not. Hopefully that will change - but the bottom line is there will be a profit even with the overrun of city expenses. The difference - I can choose not to support a political leader when they run again - I have no control over the unions except to vote to keep them out if I happened to be working where they were tring to strong-arm themselves in. The unions cause business to flee this country and put the rank and file under their rule and, unfortuately, once the union gets their stranglehold, the only thing that will stop it usually is for the business to go bellyup or leave the country - or do like Boeing is now trying to do, open new locations without the union. BTW, I have not looked, but did you use any other blogs to vent your CAVE person personnal today? Just saying.

@Oh Really, What do you call Executive City Leaders that spend money on contracts over $7500.00 for Moon Pie related expeditures that by law has to be authorized by the City Council and was not. Seems that the Moon Pie fiasco has now cost the City of Mobile taxpayers 125K instead of making a profit like you claimed it would. Are you prepared to call the City Leaders like MayorJones, Al Stokes, and Barbara Drummond organized crooks and thieves since they acted outside the laws?

The AEA agendas is the same as it's always been, fight for Teachers and Administrators jobs that get caught molesting the children and other crimes. Their agenda is to get the Teachers and Administrators accused of wrongdoing put on paid leave for years util they evenatually retire with full retirement benefits. We've seen it play out may times, Teachers and Administrators arrested and put on paid leave and allowed to sit at home and get paid while the justice system drags it's feet prosecuting the accused. The AEA is all about the AEA and it's members, taking dues from employees and donating it to political groups and candidates that will be their little stooges. Ever since the AEA was created the qualiity of education for children has declined but the AEA Executives pay has increased.
