(GULFPORT, Miss.) Supervisors in Harrison and Hancock counties have voted to support a regional tourism board that would promote the entire Gulf Coast.

Jackson County supervisors discussed the proposal Monday but didn't vote on it, saying they need more information.

Once approved by the three counties, The Sun Herald reports it would need the approval of the Legislature.

The group, which would be known as the Mississippi Gulf Coast Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau, would include representatives from the three counties and would market the area as one destination.

Business and tourism leaders have been talking about this for four years, although work on creating the group began in earnest last year.
