(MOBILE, Ala.) - Family and friends on a support page for 17-year-old volleyball star Summer Moody say she's passed away.
Summer was shot in the head on Gravine Island. Authorities say she was with three young men who were breaking into fish camps on the remote island in the Mobile Tensaw River. Investigators say she was struck by a warning shot fired by one of three campers who were on the island.
The Facebook page #TeamSummer was created to update the community on her condition and inform followers on fundraisers for Summer Moody's family.
On that page, a post around midnight Wednesday read as follows:
"Just wanted to tell everyone the good news. Summer has gone to Heaven to be with Jesus. We spent her last hours with her talking to her, singing and listening to hymns, contemporary Christian songs and old childhood songs like Skidamarink a dink a dink. I am so proud of my little sister, Brooke, for talking Summer through her last few minutes. Thank you for all the thoughts, prayers, food, drinks, support, etc that everyone has given. We really appreciate it. Please pray for our family as we face the difficult days ahead." Messages of condolences and support for Summer's family have been pouring in after that update.
