(Mobile, Ala.) Oct. 20 -- "
We're seeing a good bit of the flu this week,” said Dr. Sharon Lawrence. "We’re also seeing strep and interestingly enough we're seeing Bronco Spasm. A lot of the spasms in patients who have the flu are also getting get asthma. They’re getting it like a response in their upper airways and have to be treated like an asthma patient. We’re seeing a lot of upper respiratory infections, too."
Lawrence of the American Family Care Center in Daphne says there has been an increase in flu cases and lately they've been overwhelmed. Business has picked up tremendously at their locations in Daphne, Orange Beach and Mobile. They’ve especially been busy after they became some of the first to receive the swine flu vaccine and the seasonal flu shots.
The flu continues to top the list of illnesses at American Family Clinic's sister location in Mobile on Montlimar Drive. That’s where Dr. Donald Bedsole says in between seasonal flu shots, he and his staff are treating patients for everything from the seasonal flu to swine flu and a few cases of strep throat.
Further West at the Greater Mobile Urgent Care Center on Schillinger Road, Dr. Darren Waters is treating the flu, pneumonia and strep throat.
North of the City of Mobile in Saraland Dr. Mark McDaniel is treating the flu, upper respiratory infections and strep throat.
If you have symptoms of the flu and can get into see a doctor within two days and get the antiviral medications, you can expect your recovery to last anywhere from 4 to 6 days. But, if there’s a problem like the Bronco plasma like Dr. Lawrence mentioned, it could take a bit longer.
