MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Slick roads and deep puddles meant headaches for morning drivers. Blakely Odom's Monday started out in the middle of a five-car wreck on Government Street.
"I went to get on my brakes and my car just stopped," Odom says. "I don't even know what happened, and I hit the car in front of me."
It was actually two wrecks side by side, as drivers swerving to avoid the first crash hit each other.
"It was just really wet and slippery," Odom says. "I knew it was coming."
Sheanaka Poindexter made it to work safely, but her umbrella didn't fare so well. It whipped inside out as we caught up with her heading into work at Tacky Jack's on the Causeway. She's expecting a slow day on the job.
"Some people still come in," Poindexter says. "If not we sit there and hope we can go home early!"
A little farther down the causeway, it's no work at all for shrimpers like Droopy William.
"Its rough, rough, rough seas out there," he says over the downpour.
It's not the rain but the wind that's keeping William from heading out on his boat in search of live bait. He says the flags whipping on their flagpoles at the Battleship are a telltale sign he shouldn't go.
"A whole lot of people call all the time wanting to know what the flag's doing up on the pole," he says. "I doubt if I get to go out at all today."
