MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Mardi Gras has come and gone, that means Wednesday is the beginning of the lenten season.

Wednesday marked Ash Wednesday, a time many Christians decide to give something up until Easter or look for ways to better themselves.

"We are called by the love of God in a very particular way to see where we have become a little dead spiritually and where we need to come back to life," said Most Revered Thomas Rodi, Archbishop of Mobile.

The most common thing people mentioned giving up for Lent were chocolate, coffee and junk food.
