GULF SHORES, Ala. (WPMI) Waterville USA will soon be home to a new six lane mat racer waterslide.
Park officials say construction will get underway soon, and the slide should be open by the summer of 2013.
The slide features a tunnel circling 360 degrees high in the air before the rider explodes out onto a high speed straightway for a race toward the checkered finish line. The slides are 55 feet high, with a top speed of 40 feet per second.
Officials say the slides can accommodate more riders, meaning shorter wait times.
"We are thrilled to be adding an attraction of this magnitude to our lineup of waterslides and attractions," said Park President Joe Warrington. "Being the first of its kind on the Gulf Coast, we expect that anticipation will run high as opening day approaches," he added.
Waterville USA will be open the weekend of May 18 and 19. Then starting May 25, it will be open seven days a week. The amusement park opens March 1.
