MOSS POINT, Miss. (WPMI) Moss Point Police Chief Keith Davis says violent crime was down 14 percent in the city in 2012.
The Sun Herald reports Davis presented the annual report Tuesday night at the Moss Point Board of Aldermen meeting.
Davis said there has been a slight increase in domestic violence and property crimes, which he believes is because of hard financial times.
Fine collection for traffic and city violations has increased in the past year. In 2011, Moss Point collected over $788,000. In 2012, that amount increased to $1,100,000.
In late 2012, Moss Point received a grant to hire a DUI enforcement officer. Davis says 55 DUI arrests have been made as of Jan. 1, which is a vast increase from 2011.
