(Mobile, Ala.) Mobile Court Juvenile Judge Edmond Naman has seen families torn apart by troubled youths.
But on Christmas day, trouble came his way, to his house in Midtown Mobile.
Lucky for them, they weren't home, and didn't know what had hit them until neighbors started calling.
"Thank God we were at my mother and father's house, having Christmas dinner," said Naman.
Across the street, Neighbor Rita Tippy recounted a similar story. The damage her house received wasn't quite so bad.
"A lot of damage to the roof, and it blew out some windows," she recalled.
Most residents here agree, this was a disaster of tremendous proportions for their community.
And they'll tell you something else.
When it comes to disaster relief, they believe Mobile certainly should qualify.
Wednesday, Mobile's mayor made a startling statement... that the damage done to Mobile by two tornados in one week probably won't pass the threshold to qualify for federal disaster assistance.
After looking at ail of the debris and devastation, the Namans and Rita Tippy say they are surprised, to say the least.
"Yes it does," said Tippy. "Especially when you walk down Dauphin Street and see the church and the houses on Dauphin, the roofs completely gone... and Carlen."
"We have a lot of people who are hurting right now," said the judge. "The ramifications of that would make it a lot easier."
