Basketball tradition moves to Ladd Peebles Stadium November 7

(MOBILE, Ala.) Oct. 29 - Homecoming week celebrations at the University of South Alabama are starting in a couple of days, and students say they have something to prove.

The new USA is a school filled with the promise of an education, an infatuation with an Alabama tradition and football. Students say it is never too early to start planning. Thursday's pep rally-slash-news conference is a perfect example.

"We feel really honored to be in the position we are in this year for homecoming," Krissy Lands says. Lands is a USA cheerleader. "It's the biggest thing going on at USA. So, we're really honored."

Cheerleader Kristen Gangawere says she hopes the excitement will carry over to the stadium for the homecoming game with Milford Academy next week.

Coach Joey Jones has been counting USA fans which are made of students and alumni. "The great thing and common thread is they all love the University of South Alabama. It's getting to know the Jaguar family and wanting to be a part of it in the future. Our kids are excited about being a part of the Jaguar family."

Students say homecoming is more than a game; it is a fight for the football frenzied people of Mobile and competition is stiff.

Homecoming Chairperson Page Perry, a former Alabama fan, says she'll pull out all the stops at the bug homecoming bonfire. "Don't tell my dad, but, yeah, I'm gonna burn an Alabama shirt!"

The homecoming game kicks off Nov. 7 at 4 P.M.
