(MONTGOMERY, Ala.) The Beasley-Allen Law Firm will file a wrongful death lawsuit Monday on behalf of the family of Gil Collar.
Collar, 18, was shot to death by a campus police office in October.
The suit will name Officer Trevis Austin and USA Police Chief Zeke Aull as defendants. Collar family attorney Jere Beasley says the suit seeks injunctive relief, requesting that USA campus officers be better equipped to handle emergency situations. The suit also seeks monetary damages.
Monday's decision comes nearly two months after Collar was shot in front of the campus police department.
Mobile County investigators believe Collar was on LSD when he was acting erratically and charged Officer Austin several times. The DA expects toxicology results in about a month. Beasley says the use of deadly force was unjustified and avoidable.
The case should go before a Grand Jury in February or March.
