(BON SECOUR, Ala.) Baldwin County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating after a three week old baby was found dead Friday.Authorities said the three-week-old girl was unresponsive at the Johnson Mobile Home Park in Bon Secour. The baby was taken by ambulance to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.
The Alabama Department of Forensics performed an autopsy Friday on the child. Deputies say nothing remarkable was found during that autopsy. Deputies say the case will be turned over to the District Attorneys Office for review. The D.A.'s office will decide if the case will be presented to a Grand Jury.
Inv. Eric Winberg told Local 15 News via email Friday that there are "no apparent signs" of foul play.
This case very similar to that of a July 2011 case where Baldwin County Sheriff's Deputies found a 15-week-old girl unresponsive at a trailer park in Perdido, who later died at the hospital.
Though an autopsy showed no signs of foul play, sheriff's investigators asked DHR to step in after finding the baby's home in deplorable condition. One pediatrician called the baby's diaper rash the worst case she had ever seen.
Due to a backlog in cases at the Department of Forensic Sciences, a toxicology report was released almost a year after the incident. The complete report showed the Perdido infant's death to be undetermined.
