UPDATE: 8th Grader Brought Loaded Gun, Knife to School

(BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala.) An 8th grader from Alba Middle School is at Strickland Youth Center after Bayou La Batre Police say he brought a loaded gun and a knife to school.

The 13 year old told police he brought the weapons for protection. School officials say the gun was a .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol.

Bayou La Batre Police Lt. Clifton Adams says another student reported seeing the gun and told school officials, who told police. The student was arrested and taken to Strickland Youth Center.

The chief says the school was never on lockdown.
