UPDATE #2: Campus police have just finished up a press conference about the incident. Police say that around 1:23 a.m. officers heard loud banging on the windows of the campus police station. When an officer stepped outside to investigate, he was confronted by Gilbert Collar, who was nude and acting erratically.

Police say Collar rushed toward and verbally attacked the officer repeatedly. The officer attempted to calm Collar, but he continued to press towards the officer in a threatening manner. The officer fired a shot at Collar when he continued to rush towards the officer. Collar was hit in the chest, fell to the ground but got back up and rushed towards the officer again before collapsing and dying.

The officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave. His name has not been released.

UPDATE: Police have identified the victim as 18 year old freshman Gil Collar.

(MOBILE, Ala.) - University of South Alabama police shot and killed a student after he attacked officers.

Officials say the victim attacked an officer outside the police department on Stadium Drive. The incident happened around 1:30 a.m.

The identity of the student has not been released.

The twitter-verse is out in full force...if these chumps spent has much time trying to change things as they do complaining about it, maybe this wouldn't have happened. Or maybe if Collar hadn't acted stupid this wouldn't have happened. When this is all said and done, there will be no criminal charges, no civil damages because a perfectly healthy 18 year old doesn't flip unless he was under the influance. By his actions, I would guess Meth. With the exception of his family and friends, this will be forgotten about, Why? because Collar is nothing but a number, an expendable number at that, just like the rest of us. Darwinism at it's best...just a thinnin' of the herd...it happens everyday to people that don't do stupid things!

Hey Tony, bet you feel a little stupid since your "original comment" was NOT deleted, it is right there below your accusatory one! And giddy-up Cowboys. Keep running that "WEST" Mobile campus like Wyatt Earp! Forget these fools! They've had you everything from Mobile Police officers working a second job to cowboys and incompetents. But the truth will out.

So, the USA police are so inept that they can't restrain and handcuff an unarmed college freshman? ... Maybe they need to implement some physical fitness standards so deadly force won't have to be a convenient alternative to them actually breaking a sweat.

The University of South Alabama needs to release the video. No police officer has ever died in the line of duty from being "verbally assaulted." Release the video if there is nothing to hide.

I see my original comment was deleted. Why is that? Is this station protecting the University of South Alabama campus police? Here's the original comment that I posted. Let's see how long it stays up. The University of South Alabama campus police are little more than cowboys. They always have been cowboys. I'm not a 'stoner,'or 'bleeding heart' but still got the cowboy treatment from the University of South Alabama campus police and I was not a student and was not even on the campus. As a registered nurse I've worked in several state psychiatric hospitals and have had to deal with many violent patients. I never had to kill any patient who was "verbally assaulting" me. In fact, I never had to kill a patient at all. The University of South Alabama campus police simply aren't trained properly and this lack of training goes back at least two decades. I having been one of their victims in 1996 when three of their officers broke into my home to "take me down" after I called the city to police to file a report because a USA campus police officer tried to run me over with his marked patrol car for no reason whatsoever and then pulled his service pistol on me as I was entering my home. All of this happened off of campus where the USA campus police jurisdiction does not exist. (Yes, they are 'state' officers but their jurisdiction is the limits of the campus.) The three campus officers that broke into my home in 1996 and almost died for their stupidity and outrageous behavior. Poorly trained doesn't begin to describe these clowns. Here's the update to the previous article I posted: http://www.theharbinger.org/xvii/981020/tsang.html

Sorry, let me clarify...video and toxically don't lie, and all the bleeding hearts can see their "proof" that this BOY made a bad and deadly decision. Let his family and most importanly, the officers family (work and relatives), and the officer deal with the issues they face daily and with this particular crisis in peace!

STOP GIVING THE PD ARMCHAIR QUARTERBACKING! THE OFFICER INVOLVED IS (I'M SURE) HAVING ISSUES AFTER HAVING TO USE DEADLY FORCE. DRUGS DO INDEED CHANGE A MILD MANNERED AND SMALL STATURED PEOPLE INTO "SUPERHUMANS" AT TIMES. THERE IS A CITY ORDINANCE THAT WILL LAND YOU IN JAIL FOR FAILURE TO OBEY A L.E.O., AND I KNOW FOR FACT THE OFFICERS ON THAT CAMPUS ARE NOT QUICK TO PULL THEIR SIDEARMS. THEY PUT UP WITH A LOT FROM THE SPOILED, IGNORANT, OR SHELTERED CHILDREN SET LOOSE ON MOBILE BY THEIR OVERPROTECTIVE PARENTS. CHILDREN WHO WON'T EVEN CALL AND HANDLE THEIR OWN BUSINESS, MOMMY OR DADDY DOES IT! IF THIS YOUNG MAN WAS SHOT, WHILE TRAGIC, IT WAS JUSTIFIED. AND AS FOR "BEING SURE" THERE WAS HELP NEARBY BECAUSE "IT WAS AT THE POLICE STATION" I G N O R A N C E! POLICE OFFICERS ARE NOT SITTING AROUND WAITING FOR THE NEXT CALL. IF THEY ARE IN THE OFFICE THEY ARE USUALLY HANDLING A WALK-IN CALL OR A REPORT. SHUT UP IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT, AND STANDUP FOR THE OFFICERS WHO PUT THEIR LIFE ON THE LINE TO SAVE YOURS WHEN YOU ACT LIKE YOU HAVE NO COMMON SENSE!
