(MOBILE, Ala.) Nov. 26 - For many, spending turkey day at the Salvation Army was unexpected. And as LOCAL 15 News found out, a first for many due to the economy. Dennis Watts says, "It's different when you have to reach out for some help.”

For the first time in their lives, Dennis Watts and his fiancé Shirley are homeless. They were on their way from Arkansas to Florida when they ran out of money. They don't have jobs and are living out of their van. Watts says, "We've worked together, we've played together, we travel together and now we're homeless together." But even with so many things that have gone wrong over the past year, they still manage to look at the bright side. Watts says, "It's hard to believe there's still good people out there."

This is the fourth year Michael Thomas has spent Thanksgiving feeding the homeless. He left home at the age of 16 and knows what its like to live on the streets. He was mugged and even survived a home invasion before he turned 20. He says, "Now that I understand what it means to give, I want to give all I can."

Dennis and Shirley can't tell you what's next for them but with folks like the Salvation Army, they're confident they can get through anything that comes their way.

The Salvation Army’s Thanksgiving dinner ended at 3. They gave out 835 turkey dinners.
