(MOBILE, Ala.) - An 18-year-old remained in Mobile's Metro Jail Thursday night, accused of raping a woman he met through a dating chat line.
Joseph Rhodes was charged with raping and sodomizing the 33-year-old victim, police said.
Police said Rhodes met the victim through a dating phone service advertised on television.
After speaking to Rhodes on the phone, the victim invited him to her home. While the two were watching television, Rhodes made sexual advances toward the victim, which she turned down, police said. Rhodes then grabbed the victim by the neck and raped her, police said.
The victim sustained no serious physical injuries, police said.
Authorities advise anyone using online or televised dating services not to invite any stranger into your home. Instead, arrange a meeting at a public place during busy hours and bring a friend.
