(BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala.)  Investigators are one step closer to figuring out who is behind a series of "smash and grab" thefts that have plagued Mobile and Baldwin Counties. Local 15 has learned both Sheriff's Offices have been working the case heavily.

Gwen Braden who lives in Satsuma says the Chevy Silverado seen in the video of an attempted robbery at a convenience store in Rosinton is the same truck stolen from her home two weeks ago. "Its got to be the same folks that hit our neighborhood because they took our truck went down the street from us and broke the windows on two vehicles, " said Braden.

Braden saw our report highlighting a recent rash of smash and grabs in Baldwin County. She knows her Satsuma neighborhood was hit too and today investigators say it's possible there could be a connection. " We have a team of investigators that are assigned to solving this particular type of crime. What I can tell you is that they are actively investigating. They are following up on any leads that have been generated so far," said Eric Winberg, spokesperson for the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office.

In this case, thieves tried to steal an ATM machine but failed. "To have the nerve to steal a vehicle out of your yard that's pretty brazen and then to crash into a convenience store to steal an ATM , you know, what else will they do if they are not stopped?" said Braden.

The smash and grab thieves are still out there and Braden says she may never see her truck again but she hopes the connection between the crimes will help police catch whoever is behind the dozens of smash and grabs. "If somebody has seen this truck before and who's been using it, maybe that will help them figure out who these people are, " said Braden.
